    Load balancing routing algorithm for data gathering sensor network

    Data gathering sensor network is considered in the paper. In these networks each node is used both as source of data and as retransmitter of packets, going from other nodes. A few important parameters of sensor network (such as lifetime, data rate, channel utilization etc.) depend on chosen routing scheme. Incorrectly chosen scheme results in appearance of bottle-necks, which can highly delay data transmission and lead to rapid battery discharge of particular nodes. In this paper we propose routing scheme for convergecast sensor networks, which decreases number of bottle-necks. Effectiveness of proposed algorithm is shown via simulation

    Analysis of capacity of picocell with dominating video streaming traffic

    This paper focuses on the research of centralized wireless networks where main load is formed with on-line video streaming services. In case of congestion channel resources are not enough for satisfying all the users requirements. This brings to degradation of video playback (appearance of rebufferings, forced transcoding to lower bit rate etc). Congestion has probabilistic nature, since it depends not only on number of users but also on there location relatively to a base station and chosen bit rates of videos. For considered networks we propose a model and two techniques of congestion probability estimation. Basing on these estimations network capacity is analyzed

    Development of miniaturized communication systems for exchanging data over short distances with little power consumption is an actual problem. This problem is solved by such standards as Bluetooth, ZigBee etc. Nowadays for extra size devices with power supply from external electromagnetic field are considered. In the paper we propose using nonlinear scattering effect for reusing energy radiated with standard wireless devices such as mobile phones, access points etc. For proposed solution link budget estimation is given. Performance of different types of receivers in communications system is investigated with both theoretical analysis and simulation

    The Boechera Genus as a Resource for Apomixis Research

    The genera Boechera (A. Löve et D. Löve) and Arabidopsis, the latter containing the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, belong to the same clade within the Brassicaceae family. Boechera is the only among the more than 370 genera in the Brassicaceae where apomixis is well documented. Apomixis refers to the asexual reproduction through seed, and a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms has great potential for applications in agriculture. The Boechera genus currently includes 110 species (of which 38 are reported to be triploid and thus apomictic), which are distributed mostly in the North America. The apomictic lineages of Boechera occur at both the diploid and triploid level and show signs of a hybridogenic origin, resulting in a modification of their chromosome structure, as reflected by alloploidy, aneuploidy, substitutions of homeologous chromosomes, and the presence of aberrant chromosomes. In this review, we discuss the advantages of the Boechera genus to study apomixis, consider its modes of reproduction as well as the inheritance and possible mechanisms controlling apomixis. We also consider population genetic aspects and a possible role of hybridization at the origin of apomixis in Boechera. The molecular tools available to study Boechera, such as transformation techniques, laser capture microdissection, analysis of transcriptomes etc. are also discussed. We survey available genome assemblies of Boechera spp. and point out the challenges to assemble the highly heterozygous genomes of apomictic species. Due to these challenges, we argue for the application of an alternative reference-free method for the comparative analysis of such genomes, provide an overview of genomic sequencing data in the genus Boechera suitable for such analysis, and provide examples of its application

    In this project an open source tool for discovery and analysis of abnormal immunoglobulin genes rearrangements was developed. The main goal is in finding so-called “footprints” - small parts of incompletely rearranged V-segments in IGH genes. Joint usage of publicly available databases, on-line markup IMGT V-Quest and clonal families analyzer Partis allowed to prepare an informative dataset, which was processed via the developed tool. A few dependencies between patient phenotype and footprints statistics were discovered

    Cerebrovascular complications of hematopoetic stem cell transplantation in patients with hematologic malignancies

    Introduction. Modern transplantation and biological therapy methods are associated with a wide range of adverse events and complications. Incidence and variety of neurological complications mostly depend on myelo- and immunosuppression severity and duration as well as on donor's and recipient's characteristics. The most frequent complications involving the nervous system include neurotoxic reactions, infections, autoimmune and lymphoproliferative diseases, and dysmetabolic conditions as well as cerebrovascular complications that potentially affect transplantation outcomes. Objective. To evaluate the impact of post-transplantation cerebrovascular events (CVEs) on transplantation outcomes in patients with hematologic malignancies. Materials and methods. We analyzed 899 transplantations performed at the Raisa Gorbacheva Memorial Research Institute for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology, and Transplantation, Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University, from 2016 to 2018. We assessed transplantation parameters and donor's and recipient's characteristics by intergroup comparison, pseudo-randomization (propensity score matching), KaplanMeier survival analysis, and log-rank tests. Results. Post-transplantatively, CVEs developed in 2.6% (n = 23) of cases: 13 (1.4%) ischemic strokes and 11 (1.2%) hemorrhagic strokes or intracranial hemorrhages were diagnosed. CVEs developed on days 99.5 39.2 post hematopoetic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). There were more patients with non-malignant conditions in the CVE group as compared to the non-CVE group (21.7% vs 7.9%; p = 0.017). Patients with CVE had a significantly lower Karnofsky index (75.6 21.3 vs 85.2 14.9; p = 0.008). Statistically, we also note some non-significant trends: patients with CVE more often underwent allogenic HSCT (82.6% vs 64.0%; p = 0.077) while donors were more often partially (rather than totally) HLA compatible for recipients (39.1% vs 21.1%; p = 0.33). Patients with CVE more often had a history of venous thromboses (13.3% vs 4.2%; p = 0.077). Post-HSCT stroke decreased post-transplantation longevity by approximately 3 times (331.8 81.6 vs 897.9 25.4 post HSCT; p = 0.0001). In the CVE group, survival during first 180 days post HSCT (landmarks post-HSCT Day+60 and Day+180) was significantly lower as compared to that in the CVE-free group. If CVE developed during first 30 days and 100 days post HSCT, vascular catastrophe did not affect post-HSCT survival significantly. Conclusion. Whereas ischemic stroke is a long-term HSCT complication (beyond D+100 post transplantation), hemorrhagic stroke is a short-term complication (D0D+100 post HSCT). CVEs affect survival in patients with hematologic malignancies, especially those developed between D+60 and D+180 post HSCT. History of venous abnormalities, low Karnofsky index at HSCT initiation, and the type of allogenic HSCT, especially from half-matched donors, can be considered as negative outcome risk factors in post-HSCT CVE

    Phenological shifts of abiotic events, producers and consumers across a continent

    Ongoing climate change can shift organism phenology in ways that vary depending on species, habitats and climate factors studied. To probe for large-scale patterns in associated phenological change, we use 70,709 observations from six decades of systematic monitoring across the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Among 110 phenological events related to plants, birds, insects, amphibians and fungi, we find a mosaic of change, defying simple predictions of earlier springs, later autumns and stronger changes at higher latitudes and elevations. Site mean temperature emerged as a strong predictor of local phenology, but the magnitude and direction of change varied with trophic level and the relative timing of an event. Beyond temperature-associated variation, we uncover high variation among both sites and years, with some sites being characterized by disproportionately long seasons and others by short ones. Our findings emphasize concerns regarding ecosystem integrity and highlight the difficulty of predicting climate change outcomes. The authors use systematic monitoring across the former USSR to investigate phenological changes across taxa. The long-term mean temperature of a site emerged as a strong predictor of phenological change, with further imprints of trophic level, event timing, site, year and biotic interactions.Peer reviewe

    Chronicles of nature calendar, a long-term and large-scale multitaxon database on phenology

    We present an extensive, large-scale, long-term and multitaxon database on phenological and climatic variation, involving 506,186 observation dates acquired in 471 localities in Russian Federation, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan. The data cover the period 1890-2018, with 96% of the data being from 1960 onwards. The database is rich in plants, birds and climatic events, but also includes insects, amphibians, reptiles and fungi. The database includes multiple events per species, such as the onset days of leaf unfolding and leaf fall for plants, and the days for first spring and last autumn occurrences for birds. The data were acquired using standardized methods by permanent staff of national parks and nature reserves (87% of the data) and members of a phenological observation network (13% of the data). The database is valuable for exploring how species respond in their phenology to climate change. Large-scale analyses of spatial variation in phenological response can help to better predict the consequences of species and community responses to climate change.Peer reviewe
